Thames Technology opens Europe’s first metal payment card production facility
Thames Technology is proud to have opened the first metal payment card production facility in Europe at its headquarters in Rayleigh, Essex.
The unveiling took place at its open day on Tuesday 8th November which was attended by over 100 customers and other industry professionals as well as several dignitaries from the local borough council.
The £3.5m investment made by Thames Technology into the new metal card production facility illustrates the company's commitment to expand the business.
This follows on from the £1.9m investment the company made last year into a digital card printing press which is another first of its kind in Europe and plays an important role in the metal card production process.
The Fusion Metal Card is the first metal card with a dual interface to be manufactured at the new production facility. The luxurious card is made from a pure stainless-steel core with an ultra-thin PVC layer on front and back.
The card is perfect for large volume issuance for mass affluent market applications. Weighing in at 14 grams, it gives a reassuringly heavier feel and cooler touch. At the same time, its dual interface and 'tap on both sides' functionality provide great user experience. It is ideal for any banks or card bureau providers looking to add some elegance and exclusivity to their financial card portfolio.
Che Colford, General Manager at Thames Technology, said:
“Thames Technology is proud to have the first metal payment card production facility in Europe, and this is testament to our dedicated and hardworking team, and the ongoing investment by our parent company Paragon ID in new technologies and innovation. We are pleased to be able to offer our banking and financial services clients the option to provide their premium customers with an even greater experience.”
Clem Garvey, Chief Executive Officer of Paragon ID, said:
“This is a momentous occasion for both Thames Technology and the wider team here at Paragon ID, as we proudly became the first producers of metal payment cards in Europe. This demonstrates our commitment to continuously develop and invest in our offerings to always ensure that we provide customers with the latest innovative solutions.”
Production of the new cards is conducted within a new modular cleanroom environment, limiting potential airborne particles to ensure that the cards are not damaged at any point during the production process.
